New and Improved Plan

Based of the feedback I received from my peers (YOU amazing people), the CIS on my campus and my site supervisor, below is my new and I hope, IMPROVED action research plan. I have made adjustments to my timeline, giving myself the summer to bring all the data together and develop a presentation. My plan is to present my findings to the third grade teachers, our CIS and our Principal(my site supervisor) during work week in August. Please let me know what you think of my plan. Comment any suggestions you may have, because there's a good chance I haven't thought of everything. Thank you all so much for being so helpful throughout this course!! :)

  1. Megan,
I think this is a wonderful idea to integrate in to your 3rd graders' instruction! I did have a thought though... It could be beneficial to narrow down the data. Unless I don't understand what SRI tests are (very possible...lol). Are you planning on just looking at reading comprehension data or math? Is there any training you will provide to the teachers on best practices for using the Istation? Do you have suggestions or permission from principal to discuss which part of the lesson plan is being "replaced" with this time on the Istation because that could skew data if different teacher are using it differently too maybe.

    1. Istation and SRI are both reading related, no math. Luckily, Istation is very student friendly. They log on at the start of the month and take a placement test which starts them at their correct skill level. They complete different activities to help increase their skill level. Right now Istation is being used during centers and tutoring time and some students are even able to log in at home. We are still trying to figure out the best way possible to fully incorporate the program. Thanks for the feedback!

  2. I must admit that today I learn something new through our class blogs. I never heard of istation until I read your blog and had to look up what it meant but sti;; not sure what and how to use it in a classroom. Sounds interesting and helps kids read. Can I use it in ISS for the animation and intrique for students who have behavior problems and need something to catch their attention.

    1. If your campus has the program, you could use it wherever ya'll decide to. It is very engaging though, our students are loving it!

  3. Megan,

I thought that your first plan look good, but it looks like you fine tuned everything, which will make the process easier. Again, I have never used Istation, but it looks to be like a very useful tool for students in that it is computer adaptive to every students skill level, and that it has an engaging, interactive content with students in mind. I wish that had been available when I was in school - on that note, I wish that air conditioning had been available as well :) Best of luck to you, and I am looking forward to seeing the results of your research.
